April 15, 2022 - RV-10 Cabin Cover

Slowly but surely we have been making progress on the RV-10.  We are now working on the Cabin Cover.  First you have to trim all the edges.  The cabin cover is some thick fiberglass and puts out some serious plastic dust when trimming.  Rich and I both wore full respirators and white Tyveck overalls when trimming.

As you can see, the cabin cover is not yet fully seated on the fuselage.  It took many "trim and fit" iterations just to get to this point.

Trim and fit, trim and fit. that's all it takes.

After many more "trim and fit" iterations, we finally got the cabin cover fully seated.  Yay!

There are a bzillion panels in the RV-10.  Even though they will mostly be covered up by carpet and side-paneling, we thought it would be good to paint them grey.  We decided to have a professional do it.  My brother-in-law Mark who has been in the business all his life painted the panels for us.  He did it in a temperature-controlled spray booth.

Here are all the painted panels.

Mark knows all the latest coating technologies.  For this job, he used the below, which is a combination eurathane and epoxy.
